Funding Proposal for Miniature Equine Therapy Horse

Project Overview

Kiya.life "Keeping Indigenous Youth Alive" is a Native American-run nonprofit organization located on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. We are dedicated to improving the lives of Indigenous youth through various recreational and educational programs. To enhance our therapy program, we seek funding to purchase a miniature equine therapy horse. This proposal outlines the need for this addition, the benefits it will provide, and the costs involved.

Background

Kiya.life has been serving the community, providing therapeutic services and support to Indigenous youth through various recreational activities. Our mission is to empower and uplift Indigenous youth by offering programs that promote mental, emotional, and physical and spiritual well-being. Our vision is to create a thriving, resilient community where Indigenous youth can reach their full potential.

Need for a Miniature Equine Therapy Horse

Miniature equine therapy horses offer a unique set of benefits that complement our existing recreational programs. These smaller horses are less intimidating for clients, especially young children or those with significant fears or anxieties. They can be easily transported to schools, hospitals, and nursing homes, allowing us to extend our reach and provide therapy to those who may not be able to visit our facility.

Benefits of the Program

  1. Emotional Benefits: Interaction with a miniature horse can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. The bond formed with the horse can help clients build trust and develop emotional connections.
  2. Physical Benefits: Grooming, leading, and riding a miniature horse can improve motor skills, balance, and coordination.
  3. Social Benefits: Group therapy sessions with the miniature horse promote social interaction and teamwork among clients.
  4. Cognitive Benefits: Activities involving the miniature horse can enhance cognitive function, including attention, memory, and problem-solving skills.

Project Plan

  1. Selection and Purchase: We will carefully select a suitable miniature horse from a reputable breeder, ensuring that the horse is well-trained and healthy.
  2. Training and Integration: The miniature horse will undergo additional training to adapt to our therapy programs and interact effectively with clients.
  3. Program Implementation: The miniature horse will be integrated into our existing therapy sessions, with regular evaluations to measure its impact on clients.
  4. Community Outreach: We will organize visits to schools, hospitals, and nursing homes, bringing the miniature horse to clients who cannot come to our facility.

Budget

  • Purchase of Miniature Horse  = $5000
  • Training and Integration = $1500
  • Veterinary Care and Insurance = $1500
  • Transportation and Equipment = $2000
  • Miscellaneous Expenses = $2500

Total = $12,500

Evaluation and Sustainability

We will regularly assess the effectiveness of the miniature horse therapy program through client feedback, progress reports, and measurable outcomes. The program will be sustained through continuous fundraising efforts, grants, and community support.

We will explore various opportunities to generate revenue for the non-profit to ensure the sustainability of the miniature horse therapy program. These opportunities include offering therapy sessions to private clients, hosting fundraising events, and selling branded merchandise.

Additionally, we plan to collaborate with local businesses and organizations for sponsorships and partnerships that will provide financial support and increase visibility for our program. By diversifying our revenue streams, we aim to create a stable financial foundation that will allow us to continue providing this valuable service to Indigenous youth.

Conclusion

The addition of a miniature equine therapy horse will significantly enhance our ability to provide effective and transformative therapy to Indigenous youth. We kindly request your support in funding this valuable addition to our program.
